Over the Border: River City Comic Con

River City Comic Con is a one day comic book and collectibles show.  It is at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta, Ohio on July 28th from 10am to 5pm.

They have a number of local comic creators and artists coming to the con like comic writer James Patrick (Green Arrow, Grimm Fairy Tales), Nathan S. Arnold and Evan Bevins of Support Group, Larry Blake and Gary Gilbeaut from Five Star Comics, small press publishers Broken Icon Comics, Dustin Carson (No Gods), Michael Mayne (Bonnie Lass), the Ohio Valley Artists League, Lee Smith (Ohio Comics), Paul M. Thompson (Laughing Stroke), Alia White (Low Forecast), Derek Croston (Method Comix), Michael K. Easton (Short Pants Romance), artists Zach BrookerJesse MarksW. Travis Echard, Ren McKinzie, and Stephanie Merrill.

They also have a few filmmakers like Daniel Boyd of Chillers, writer and director of locally filmed “Pro Wrestlers vs Zombies” Cody Knotts, writer and director Jeffery Scott Richards, and Eric Whiteley two-time winner of the International Lightsaber Choreography Competition and short film director.  Plus Remix Pro Wrestling and blogger Time Rust.

Vendors lined up so far are Asylum Comics, C & C Comics, Classic Plastics Toy Store, Spectrum Comics, Super-Fly Comics & Games, and World’s Greatest Comics.  So plenty of comics, gaming, toys, and other collectibles to check out.

The con will have a couple of screenings: locally made Star Wars fan films and chat with the creators at 11 am, short film Clean Before Loading by Jeffrey Scott Richards with cast and crew Q&A at noon, and Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies footage and Q&A with director Cody Knotts at 1 pm.  The costume contest will be divided into three categories: Best Child Costume, Best Adult Costume, and Most Original Costume.  Judging will be at 2 pm.

Admission for the con is only $2 for adults and free for children under 8.  There will be plenty of free parking.  Definitely a show I plan to go to, having gone to there first show two years ago, a good show that is big on community and friendly atmosphere.  Just as long as there is air conditioning.
