Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum Opening Day 2017

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston is holding its Opening Day this Saturday April 1st.  Be one of the first to check out the restoration and preservation work that was completed over this past winder while the ghosts were on vacation.

The doors open at 9:30am on Saturday and 11:30am on Sunday.  They will then stay open till 6pm.  Tours will leave hourly from 10am to 5pm.

The first 150 ticket holders will receive a 2017 Souvenir Wine Glass.

Normal tour hours run Tuesday through Friday & Sunday Noon to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 6pm.  The asylum is closed on Mondays.  The main doors open 30 minutes before the first tour.  Tours generally leave on the hour, show up before your time.

There are four daily tours to choose from, all but one are a historical focused.  First Floor Tours are 45 minutes is $10.  Four Floor Tour is 90 minutes for $30.  Criminally Insane Tour is an hour and $15.  A Daytime Paranormal Tour is 90 minutes and $35.

Weekend Tours include Farm and Cemetery Tour, VIP Tour, Photo Tour, Nighttime Paranormal tour, and Overnight Ghost Hunt.

Fans of historical buildings and ghost stories should try to get up this weekend or some other time before it closes for the season on November 5th.

Welcome to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum located in Weston, WV. Formerly known as the Weston State Hospital, this West Virginia facility served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill in the mid-1800’s. The history of the building holds fascinating stories of Civil War raids, a gold robbery, the “curative” effects of architecture, and the efforts of determined individuals to help better the lives of the mentally ill. Tour this nationally recognized landmark and see how it left a lasting impression on local and national history. Daily heritage tours are available for both small and large groups.


Spring TechLAN 2017

The Spring TechLAN is this Friday March 31st and Saturday April 1st at the Tech Center Ballroom at the WVU Institute of Technology in Montgomery.  Doors will be open Friday from 6pm to midnight and Saturday 10am to 2am.   The event is run by the WVU Institute of Technology Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery

Tournaments at the LAN will include Overwatch 3v3 arcade, Dive Kick best of 3 with controllers, Hearthstone best of 5, and Rocket League best of 3.  For console games they will have Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U and Mario Maker.  Check the website for more on rules.

Attendees are encouraged to join in and play others games throughout the day.

Entry is $15 for Saturday; an extra $2 will get you in on Friday as well.  This lets you set up a computer and play in any of the tournaments.  A Platinum Package of $40 gets you on both days, lets you have an entire table to yourself and computer with monitor size restrictions lifted.  Limited packages available must register in advance.  It is free to just come and hand out though.

Light refreshments will be available for paying attendees.  Door prizes will also be given out to paying attendees.
