Parkersburg Pop Con

The 2nd Annual Parkersburg Pop Con is this Saturday September 30th at West Virginia University at Parkersburg in Parkersburg from 11am to 5pm.  An event about all of pop culture.

Guests for the con are actor Jeremy Ambler, comic creator Tim Shinn, and illustrator Rusty Shackles.

Vendors and artists will be selling figures, comics, toys, memorabilia, collectibles, handmade crafts, clothing, food, anime and manga, shoes, art and prints, pezes, books, movies, jewelry, video games, knitted items, leather items, buttons, and plenty of other geeky items.  Also there will be Bunny Bombshell, Crooked Letter Creative, WV Ghostbusters, Hades Ladies of Hell’s Orchard Roller Derby, games, James Patrick, Jason Lewis, Shawn Langley, Stephen Hines, Wilson’s House of Cosplay, podcasters What’s Going On plus charities and publishing companies.

Events include table top gaming library, cosplay contests for adults and youths, cosplay panels, Super Smash Bros and Injustice 2 video game tournaments, live podcast recording, audience movie riffing, and more.

Crooked Letter Creative and the Astral Theatre Collective will be performing their new work “Carmilla” based on the horror classic by J. Sheridan LeFanu at the WVU Parkersburg theater at 8pm the same day.  The show is $15.

Admission for the con is only $5 and children ten and under get in free with an adult.

Nice little some event with several different genres covered and people to see and meet.


16th Annual Mothman Festival

The 16th annual Mothman Festival returns this Saturday September 16th and Sunday September 17th in the heart of main street Point Pleasant.  The event is a combination of town fair, comic con, and paranormal conference.

Things to see and do at the festival include bus tour of the TNT area, visit the Mothman Museum and the other museums in the area, the Mothman Statue, live bands, cloggers,  face painting, games, Hillbilly Zip Line, obstacle course, meet the AIMS Team from Destination America’s “Mountain Monsters” show, Mothman hayrides, Mothman 5k, the Mothman Pageant, and general sights to see.
There is also presentations from guest speakers at the Historic State Theater for free.  There will be talks from paranormal professionals, artists, and authors on topics covering local events and history, 2017 Chicago Flying Humanoids Wave, Southern Sasquatch, Black Eyed Kids, portals, and more.  On Sunday they will have a round table discussion answering questions from the audience.

Special costume appearances from the 501st Legion Carrison Corellia, Ghostbuster chapters from both WV and Ohio (includes giant 40ft Stay Puft Marshmallow Man), Bigfoot, the Men in Black, the Flatwoods Monster, and of course the Mothman himself.  If you have a costume of your own you would like to wear they heavily encourage you get in on the fun.

You can also find vendors selling all kind of merchandise.  Artists, authors, crafters, foods of all kinds, lemonade, and more with a paranormal theme going on.

The festival is free, but some events and places do cost a small fee.  But just hanging out seeing and meeting people is totally free.

A great time if you are interested in the paranormal, county fairs, or something you could bring your norm family too.

Shockacon 2017

Horror/Sci-Fi convention, ShockaCon rises again this Friday September 8th to Sunday September 10th at the Beni Kedem Shrine Center in Charleston.

Guests for this year include Naomi Grossman (Pepper from American Horror Story), Daeg Faerch (young Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween), Ari Lehman and his band First Jason, Lew Temple (Axel in Walking Dead), Geretta Geretta (Rats: Night of Terror, Demons), Monique Dupree (Tha True Original Gata), Chalet Lizette Brannam (Crepitus), Josh Turner and Scott Lane ( Negan’s saviors on Walking Dead), artists Matthew Atchley,  Chris Woodall, JR Earls, John Johnson (film company Darkstone Entertainment), Cemetery Knights, Naughty Samadhi belly dance troupe, Po’Folks Cabaret, Professor Sinister Savage Sideshow, Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Blue Box Alliance, Last Ride Motion Simulated Coffin Ride, Dead Zone Productions, KCHA Black Cat Adoption, Terminus Grilling, prop maker Tiffany Steele, WV Ghostbusters, and more.

Music acts for this year are the Renfields, the Jasons, Black Hole Zion, Captain Catfeesh, and Ghost Road.

Events over the will include CharCon Gaming, a Scavenger Hunt, game shows, crafting workshops on crafting and creating, Drink and Paint, panels on cosplay, film making, cryptozoology plus more, guests Q&As, performances on stage from 8pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday, scream contest, Kid’s Day on Sunday, costume contest on Saturday with $10 entry fee (half goes to the winner, half to charity), and plenty more to keep you entertained.  The after party, Aftershock, will be at the Blue Parrot on Friday and Saturday starting at midnight.

Not much is known on vendors except some horror related hand-made creations for sale.

Ticket pre-orders are closed but can still be bought at the door.  $45 for weekend pass, $15 for Friday or Sunday only, and $25 for Saturday only.  Children six and under get in free.

Another year for horror and costuming fans to enjoy.
