Natsu no Tsubasacon 2017

Tsubasacon’s annual summer picnic Natsu no Tsubasacon is this Sunday June 25th at Ritter Park in Huntington from noon to 4pm.  At the older shelter.

The food is being brought potluck style, if you wish to bring something sign-up at Perfect Potluck to let everyone know.

Activities will include lawn games like kubb and bocce, an anime and manga swap, Summer Themed Cosplay Contest, suikawari (watermelon splitting), a Staff vs Attendee Kickball game, and combat demos from  Black Fire Valley (Amtgard), the local SCA chapter showing off heavy weapons, Tri-State Jen’Saarai, and Imperial Legion.  The cosplay contest three categories are Best Summer Design, Original Design, and Best Overall.

You can start your own thing at the picnic as well.  Some other activities that might happen are a Pokémon Go Walk, dance music, card and board gaming, photo shoots or what ever you would like to do.

The event is free but they will be taking donations for the Ronald McDonald House.  They will take non-perishable food, kitchen and cleaning items, gift cards, and more.  You will be able to buy passes for Tsubasacon this October there too.

A fun little friendly community gathering if anyone who might interested.

WV Pop Con 2016

WV Pop Con is back this Saturday August 27 from 10am to 7pm and Sunday August 28th from 11am to 5pm at Mylan Park in Morgantown.

Featured creator guests at the show are Dominike “Domo” Stanton (Starbrand and Nightmask, character illustrator for Archer), Chad Cicconi (sketch card artist), Steve Geiger (former managing art director of Marvel), Justin Jordan (Shadowman, Call of Duty Zombies), Bill McKay (Zombie Tramp, Vampblade), Rafter Roberts (Archer and Armstrong, Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream), DJ Coffman (Hero by Night, The God Child), and Shawn Gabborin (found member and editor in chief of Action Lab Entertainment).

There will be plenty of other exhibitors there: illustrators, writers, comic creators, nerdy crafters, an all girl robotics team, game creators, painters, Electro-Magnetic Press and other small publishers, sculptors, photographers, cosplayers, podcasters, tattoo artists, Ghostbusters, filmmakers, Rebel Legion, College Football Hall of Famer Major Harris, Amtgard, pro wrestler Ricky Morton, 501st, Morgantown Roller Vixens, Black Mountain Guard, Pathfinder Society, and more.

Not to mention vendors selling comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, gaming supplies, t-shirts, collectables, toys, plush, books, video games, crafts, buttons, leather work, weapons, posters, and plenty more.

They will have a kid’s cosplay contest on Saturday and an adult one on Sunday, various panels, games of Pathfinder, Magic: The Gathering tournament, other gaming demos, gaming library, and retro video games.

Admission at the door will be $20 for both days.  They will also have exclusive covers for sell for Generation Zero and two different Prince-S STARthief done by guests for sell at the show.

A comic show with a lot of variety for fans of all kinds of genres.

WV Pop Con 2015

WV Pop Con returns to Mylan Park in Morgantown this Saturday August 22nd from 10am to 7pm and Sunday August 23rd from 11m to 5pm.

Creator guests include comic creators, artists, authors, crafters, design studios, costumers, and more.  Featured guests are Mike McKone (Avengers Academy, Justice League United), Thomas Zahler (Love and Capes, My Little Pony), DJ Coffman (Hero by Night, God Child), Chad Cicconi (sketch cards, NFL Rush Zone), Bill McKay (Zombies vs Cheerleaders, Danger Zone), and Dennis Budd (sketch card artist) .  Some of WV’s finest who will be there include featured guest James Patrick (Green Arrow, Pulp 21) and Robert Tinnell (Feast of the Seven Fishes, Wicked West); Jason Pell (Zombie Highway, Season’s End), Rich Bottles Jr. (Hellhole West Virginia, Lumberjacked),  Larry Morgan (Electro-Magnetic Press), Grinning Fox Customs, Dustin Smith (Knight Hunter), David Newbold (Runaways, Weapon X), Dusty Catlett, Implexity Designs, Angi D*signs, Garrick Gilmore, Josh Floquet, Andrew Carter (Let’s Play All The Games, Habitat Against Humanity) and others.

Entertainment guests are the 501st Legion Garrison Carida Squad Corellia, The Portrait Dude, Rebel Legion, Amtgard, Mandalorian Mercs The Black Mountain Guard, Morgantown Roller Vixens, Wudang Swordsmen Academy, Sigler Photography’s Morbid Memories, World Paranormal Investigations, Vintage Theatre Company, WV Ghostbusters and their van, Jeremy Ambler (Walking Dead, the Crazies), game company Milton Roe Creative and cosplayers Knightmage, Bio Cosplay, and Bunny Bombshell. They will have vendors selling comics, games, action figures, TPBs, cards, collectibles, video games, figures, costumes, props, t-shirts, leather goods, weapons, and who knows what all else.  Plus publishers Outpouring Comics, Burning Bulb Publishing, Electro-Magnetic Press, and Action Lab Comics.

Gaming will include Magic tournaments hosted by Nerducopia, West Virginia Pathfinder Society, a table top and retro gaming libraries and demos.  The costume contest is Sunday at 3pm.  Sign-up at the Illusive Skull booth at the con.

Admission is $10 for each day or $18 for two days.  Children under 10 get in free with an adult.   You can purchase before hand online or at Comic Paradise Plus in Fairmont or Westover.

Featured creator guests include the prolific author Peter David of tv, film, books, and comics, Koi Pham of Marvel and Image, Eisner Award Winner Chris Sprouse, multiple Harvey Award winning co-creator/writer of The Mice Templar Bryan J.L. Glass, Douglas Paszkiewicz of Arsenic Lullaby, Chad Cicconi comic and sketch card artist, Ken Haeser, Buz Hasson, and Blair Smith of Living Dead Corpse Comics, and John Russo co-author of Night of the Living Dead.  Various WV based or born creators include Gary Lee Vincent, Shane Moore, Dusty Catlett, Jason Pell, Bubble and Geek Candles & Scents, Insane Stain, Rich Bottles Jr., Green Dragon, Larry Morgan, Garrick Gilmore, Lucien Knights, Josh Floquet, and the Morgantown High School Art Department.

Entertainment guests for the con include Paul Bradford of Ghost Hunters International, RJ Haddy, cosplayers Knightmage,and Costumed Vigilante, the Rebel Legion, 501st Garrison Carida, Amtgard, a Back to the Future DeLorean, WV Tattoo Expo, Morgantown Roller Vixens, WV Ghostubsters, Let Us Nerd, and Vintage Theatre Company.

Vendors at the con will include comic and game shops, comic and book publishers, toy and collectables vendors, video games, Legos, costume shop, swords and weapons, t-shirts, and much more.

Events at the con include costuming workshops, a costume contest on Sunday, board games and game demos, video games, photo booth, Pathfinder Society.  Tournaments include Magic the Gathering, Pokemon DS, X-Wing minis, Pokemon TCG, Warhammer 40k, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Street Fighter, and Halo.

Tickets are $10 or both days for $18 for everyone over six years old.
