Second Weekend in June

The second weekend of the West Virginia Renaissance Festival at the Hanlon-Lees Action Theater and Hollow Hills Farm in Lewisburg is this Saturday and Sunday from 11am-8pm .

This weekend theme is Celtic Crossing. They will have Celtic music from various acts and a best knees costume competition. Kilts will be sold on site.

The festival will have jousting, artisans and merchants, food and local brews, games of skill, music and dance, a petting farm, dragons and unicorns, jugglers, magicians, rope walkers, mermaids, comedy acts, and all kinds of things to see and do.

Admission is $18 for adults, $8 for children 6-12, and free for children under 6. A family package special of $38 for a family of four is available for this weekend.

BuckhanaCon is Saturday at the Stockert Youth and Community Center in Buckhannon on Saturday from 11am to 6pm.

Events include a panel from Dream to Life Cosplay, Cosplay Lip Sync Battle, Floor is Lava Competiton, Slime Lab, raffle, cosplay contest, Supernatural Trivia, fire performance from Out of Ashes, Saber Demonstration from Centauri Prime, Buckhana Quest adventure search, and various vendors.

Event is $10 for teens and adults, kids 4-12 for $5, and kids younger than that for free.

Nitro Mini-Con at the Nitro Memorial Living Park in Nitro from 10am to 5pm on Saturday. There will be vendors selling comics, toys, collectibles, and plenty of other fun stuff. Appearances from an Ecto-1 and General Lee cars plus the band Alien Super Jesus.

The whole thing is free to attend.

Wizarding Weekend at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels is this Saturday at 4pm till Sunday at noon.

This year they are having a Murder Mystery Weekend as students at Wizard School. A three part series on the quidditch fields, at the great hall and at breakfast. There will be dinner and breakfast , a social hour with magic inspired cocktails, wizard school trivia, and each student will receive a school notebook.

Buy tickets to the three murder mystery events with dinner and breakfast or buy the overnight stay.

This is no ordinary Murder Mystery Weekend. Wizard School Students must assemble for a three part series: 4pm: A Gathering on the Quidditch Fields, 6pm: A Feast in the Great Hall, and 11am: Breakfast Banquet to finish.

Students are encouraged to dress in their favorite wizarding wardrobes for the event.

WV’s First Wizarding Event

Wizarding Weekend at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels on Labor Day Weekend (Friday August 31st to Saturday September 1st).  The weekend is dedicated to capturing the spirit of magic and enchantment in a fun environment.  The event is open to both adults and children both.  There is no required dress for the event, but costumes are welcomed.

Everyone will be able to pick which of the four Orders of Enchantment they wish to join (Ruby, Emerald, Gold, Sapphire) when registering.  All members will be given a token to identify what order you belong to.  Info on each order is on the website.

The Wizarding Weekend Package at the Glade Springs Resort starts at $106 per person per night.  The Package includes: Friday and Saturday night accommodations, Wizardly Breakfast on Saturday, Sorcerer’s Scavenger Hunt, Wand Crafting, Quidditch Demo and Practice with WVU Quidditch, Wizardcatures, Saturday night Wizard Feast, After party, shopping with Books-A-Million, and Sunday breakfast buffet.

If you do not want to stay, or pay, for the full weekend, for $38 you can just attend the Saturday night Wizard Feast.  You will get to enjoy a Social Half Hour before the feast to mingle with other with an Elixir Bar with themed drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and Magical Mirror photo booth.  The feast will be held in fully decorated Great Hall with a themed dinner.  Everyone will be seated based on order and Famous Wizards Trivia will be held during dinner between orders for the wizard’s cup.  There are two dinner seating’s, one at  5pm and one at 7:30pm.  The menu is on the website.

Fans of Harry Potter should give a look to the event.  Very much more a social event than a convention, but still good times.
